Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management
Today's managers work in complex organiztional structures. They are concerned not only with employees and customers, but with the social, economic, political, and technological aspects of their environment. As we turn toward a global economy, successful managers will be required to have a working knowledge of the international business environment.
Each managerial position in every firm or organization is unique, fulfilling the specific requirements of the organization. A manager is usually an active member of the management team and is a skilled team player
Functions of a Manager:
- Planning: involves the establishment of goals, defining objectives, and developing short and long term strategic planning.
- Oganization and Administration: establishes the structure which enables individuals to work together efficiently and productively. The manager is a motiavtor, helps create a good work environment, and is involved in trainingg employees as well as assigning responsibilities and delegating authority. They manage conflicts and changes.
- Controlling: requires managers to receive the information necessary to evaluate employee performance and progress of the firm's strategic objecives and take corrective action if required.
Degree Requirements:
The degree requirements are any five of the following:
- HRM 351 - Human Resource Management
- Survey of the field covering recruitment, selection, training, appraisals, grievance handling, communications, discipline, safey, compensation, and benefits.
- HRM 353 - Leadership and Group Dynamics
- Develop understanding of theory and research on managerial, entrepreneurial leadership and creativity in organizations. Topics include leadership, decision making, motivation, personality, and rewards within group settings.
- HRM 354 - Organizational Change and Effectivness
- Identify and evaluate methods to promote an effective change transition through efficient integration of corporate goals with the organizational culture.
- MGT 320 - Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship
- Covers the role of new ventures and entrepreneurship in the world economy, the formation, funding, marketing, structure and implementation of business ventures.
- MGT 321 - Project/Venture Management
- Project/Venture management application or project/venture management techniques such as planning methods; PERT/CPM forecasting: appliation of most current practices. Pre: BUS 310 and BUS 315
- MGT 341 - Behavior in Organizations
- Contributions made by sociology, psychology, and related behavioral sciences to the understanding and prediction of human behavior in organizations. Pre: BUS 315
- MGT 344 - Seminar in Management
- In-depth analysis of selected current practices and trends in administration. May be repeated with change in topic. Pre: consent.
- MKT 321 - Marketing Research
- Research aids to marketing management; nature of the research process; planning research including problems of sampling and measurement; experimental and non-experimental methods and techniques; analysis of data. Pre: BUS 310 and BUS 312, or consent.
